The Coronado Condominium - Luxury condos in Washington, DC
Modern Living at the Historic Coronado Condominium in Adams Morgan, Washington, DC
While its official address is 1840 Vernon Street NW, Washington, DC 20009, the historic Coronado condominium community actually has two street addresses at 1840 and 1846 Vernon Street. Offering distinctive Arts & Crafts rooflines and originally built in 1910, the twin former apartment buildings are located within a recently created historic district in the popular Adams Morgan community. These aging treasures had been abandoned for some time and were in a serious state of decay. But the well-known Bonstra | Haresign architectural group stepped in with a thoughtful renovation that preserved the original look while completely transforming the interiors into 28 modern units. Now, the buildings have beautifully preserved and restored exteriors while offering lovely new finishes inside, providing a perfect example of new-meets-old. The Adams Morgan neighborhood is also part of the appeal, with numerous fun shops and restaurants nearby.

Modern Condo Features at The Coronado
The two buildings with their stucco and limestone front facades are perched up from the street and fronted by steps and landscaping. The architects and builders created a glass-enclosed section that connects two structures, where a narrow courtyard once existed. The end result is a convenient and modern addition that adds nicely to the appearance. This glass connector also serves to house a new elevator. Three of the four levels are above ground, with a handful of units at the basement level. The condos are nicely located between 18th and 19th Streets, easy strolling distance from restaurants, nightlife, and boutique retailers. The communities of Kalorama and Dupont Circle are right next-door.
Stepping inside these gut-renovated buildings, you’ll find a variety of floorplans with one, two and three-bedroom units ranging from around 600 to 1,335 square feet in size. Some of the condos have loft floorplans. Handsome hardwood floors, tall windows, and recessed overhead lighting combine for a bright and cheery feel. The open gourmet kitchens feature white stone counters, white custom cabinetry, upscale stainless steel appliances, and hanging pendant lighting over the dining bars. The bathrooms are similarly well appointed, with either stone-topped twin-sink vanities or designer vessel sinks, plus tubs and frameless showers. Most units have new private balconies that replaced older porches. While the front of the development is finished in a cream colored stucco finish with limestone at the base, the sides and rear of the structures are brick. The pet-friendly condo complex also provides on-site parking for most but not all of the residences.
Coronado is nicely located on a tree-lined street in the heart of Adams Morgan. Other buildings on this block are similarly historic, whether low-rise apartments and condominiums or rowhouses. Neighborhood grocery stores include Harris Teeter, YES! and the small Hana Market. The 18th Street restaurant row is less than a block away. Among the nearby bars, eateries, and bakeries are ThreeFifty and Coffee Bar, Rise, Green Zone, Death Punch, San Marco, The Diner, and many more. Also nearby is Kalorama Park as well as the unique urban Meridien Park with its statues, cascading water terraces, and Sunday drum circles. The nearest Metro station is Dupont Circle.
