Modern Condo Features at the Historic Logan School
The red brick building with its Romanesque Revival design, including a front turret, was built in 1891 and served the neighborhood until its student body grew too large. In 1935, a new Logan School was built across the street. The original structure was renamed The Annex and was used for additional space. Herrema, a former Capitol Hill staffer, began rehabbing abandoned row houses while still working in the Senate, and ultimately turned to full time development. The original Logan School building was renovated and transformed to condo usage around 1985. Herrema’s many other projects included Grace Church, and Carbery School, both of which became condominiums in the ‘80s.
Residences at the Logan School come in one or two bedroom layouts, many of which are two-levels with lofts. Some units also have dens which serve nicely as work from homes spaces, or additional sleeping quarters. Sizes vary from around 550 to over 1,100 square feet. Unlike some newer gut-restoration buildings, the Logan School shows a remarkable amount of attention paid to preservation and historic details, such as original restored hardwood floors, wood-burning fireplaces, tall, deep-set windows, exposed brick accents, and soaring ceilings. The galley kitchens that were first introduced in the 1980s have often been remodeled since. You’ll also find built-ins, fun nooks, and gorgeous bathrooms. Most of the condos have private outdoor spaces, and all have washers and dryers.
This particular part of Capitol Hill is also associated with smaller nearby neighborhoods such as Near Northeast, Stanton Park, NOMA, and the H Street Corridor. But make no mistake, it’s still very much the Hill, and quite close to the Capitol Building itself, as well as the Supreme Court, Lower Senate Park, the National Mall, and countless museums and landmarks. You’ll find bakeries, restaurants, and bars in all directions, including Ebenezer’s Coffee House, Café Fili, East Street Café, Sticky Fingers Diner, Irregardless, Po Boy Jim Bar and Grill, Bar Elana, and so many more. It’s a very walkable neighborhood, with tree-lined brick sidewalks and a residential feel, yet just a couple blocks from all the action.
Pet-Friendly and Close to Green Spaces
The Logan School condos welcome pets. There are a number of nearby parks and other green spaces where you can relax, or where you might also want to take a dog for some exercise. Examples are Lower Senate Park, Stanton Park, and the Swampoodle Dog Park.
