More About Potomac Yard Condos, Alexandria, Virginia

While much of the modern day Potomac Yard is comprised of new construction with more to come, the land dates all the way back to an 18th century tobacco plantation. It was later one of the nation s busiest rail yards, and often referred to as Pot Yard for short. The industrial site went through a yearslong cleanup effort which was completed in 1998. Numerous competing redevelopment plans ensued, with the end result being accepted bids from multiple entities, resulting in a new community with varying architectural styles. This allows for organic growth, much in the same way that many towns and neighborhoods develop over time.

Among current plans is Potomac Yard s extension north into Arlington, merging with the new National Landing project and Amazon s HQ2 headquarters. Planners in Alexandria and Arlington ultimately envision a massive and seamless live, work and play community extending from Crystal City all the way south to the edge of Old Town North. This will mean additional new condominiums and townhomes, hotels, and a new town center with shopping, dining, and entertainment. The new Potomac Yard Park with its playground and interactive fountain is just the first step in what will ultimately be multiple greenspaces and activity centers, with walking and bicycling trails connecting the various parts of Potomac Yard.
