Modern Condo Features at The Winchester

The Winchester is located at 1807 California Street, just steps from 18th Street and an incredible collection of popular restaurants. This is the southern part of Adams Morgan, and very close to the next-door neighborhoods of Kalorama to the west and Dupont Circle to the south. The condominium is in a hilly part of the neighborhood, on a tree-lined street that is pleasantly walkable. The building sits up on a grassy embankment, with steps leading up to the wide double doors. Large and boxy front bays combine with memorable limestone detailing, surrounding the windows, above the front doors, and across the top of the structure. There is alleyway parking along the side as well as in back, including assigned spaces.

Inside, you’ll find welcoming blends of new and old, lending a vintage tone that is complemented by modern conveniences. The classic hardwood floors are a nice touch in contrast with the wide plank engineered materials so ubiquitous these days. Also notable are interior glass-paned doors, tall built-ins, crown molding, and marble-surround wood burning fireplaces. Galley kitchens are now semi-open to the living areas, and have also been updated with stone counters, handsome cabinetry, and stainless steel appliances. Bathrooms have been similarly remodeled. Many of the units include private outdoor spaces of some sort, typically along the sides and back of the building.

The Winchester is just a couple of buildings away from 18th Street, allowing for a wonderful shopping and dining experience. There are numerous local indie shops and businesses within a few blocks, including thrift stores, galleries, tennis courts, grocery stores, and the Adams Morgan Animal Hospital. Restaurants within easy strolling distance include Ceibo, Souvlaki, Kerin Café & Restaurant, Jack Rose Dining Saloon, New Heights, Lucky Buns, Duccini’s Pizza, just to name a few. The delightful Coin Des Poetes is also close at hand for morning crepes and coffee.
