More About Adams Morgan Real Estate in Washington, DC

Originally part of the Lanier Heights community, Adams Morgan became its own neighborhood in the 1950s. Located northeast of Kalorama and west of Columbia Heights, the subdivision was renamed in honor of two recently desegregated schools, John Quincy Adams which previously had been all-white and Thomas P. Morgan which had been all-black. The progressive tides were momentarily halted during DC’s civil unrest in the late 1960s. But about a decade later, a new renaissance of dance clubs and restaurants kickstarted a residential rebirth, as buyers snapped up abandoned and/or distressed properties and renovating them.

These days, those bargain deals are long gone, and Adams Morgan is a portrait of the modern Washington lifestyle. Nightclubs, cafes, art galleries, and bodegas remain, but the lively weekend party scene of years past has become a bit more relaxed, and part of an overall picture of upscale livability in one of the District’s most walk-friendly neighborhoods. Adam Morgan’s famed 18th Street restaurant corridor remains one of the most notable in the area. The local luxury real estate market is tilted toward townhouses, condos and lofts, including former apartment building conversions and brand new construction.
