Luxury Homes Built in the Last Decade, Washington Metro
The flip side of the coin can do with available inventory, especially when it pertains to homes in certain parts of region. The Washington area is steeped in tradition, from the District itself to its surrounding areas. Densely populated urban neighborhoods of DC aren’t as likely to have empty lots, and it makes more sense for commercial builders to erect luxury condominiums if and when there is some space left to develop.
There are also numerous historic districts throughout the DC area, where new construction becomes more challenging. But as you move further away from the crowded city corridors, luxury homes built within the last decade become more plentiful. It is also worth pointing out that new luxury townhouses are more common that new detached houses in many inner city communities.
While townhouses built within the last decade are found throughout Washington, luxury detached homes from the same time period increasingly appear in the suburbs. These increasingly popular communities are those within the metropolitan area but outside of urban centers. Northwest Washington, DC neighborhoods like the Palisades, Spring Valley, Tenleytown, and Forest Hills are not only known for quiet leafy streets and affluent residential charm, but lovely newer homes that are often the result of teardowns. Continuing north and across the Maryland border, popular communities like Bethesda and Potomac offer plenty of construction from the past decade.
Neighborhoods throughout Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, and Falls Church also offer numerous opportunities for newer homes. There has been a lot of construction in small upscale neighborhoods in North Arlington, while nearby McLean in Fairfax County is one of the top choices for very high end properties, including stunning newer modernist designs from some of the region’s top architects, as well as large Mediterranean, Georgian, French Country, and Arts and Crafts custom construction. Those interested in newer homes at more competitive prices may wish to explore Prince George’s County, where there is an especially deep reserve of generously sized homes built in the last decade.
Gleaming gourmet kitchens with all the bells and whistles, new floors, expansive open living spaces, oversized windows, finished basements with rec rooms, roofs that don’t leak, updated HVAC systems, landscaped yards, and garages to keep your vehicles safe from the elements that may be common to a more recently built house. Or what about a multi-level luxury townhome with its own elevator and roof deck, close to shops and restaurants? In a region that is so closely associated with old history and tradition, there are countless reasons to invest in something new and now.
